NHDOC Mourns the Passing of K-9 Ryker

CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Corrections (NHDOC) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Investigations K-9 Ryker on February 20, 2025, following a short battle with cancer.

Ryker, a ten-year-old Belgian Malinois, began her distinguished career with the Department in 2016 as part of one of its first K-9 teams. She was proudly partnered with her handler, Deputy Chief Chris Ward. During that time Ryker was instrumental in the prevention and detection of contraband throughout the department, aiding in numerous felony level drug cases. Ryker’s drive and desire to work was unmatched, and she frequently provided assistance to outside agencies throughout the state.

Beyond her service, Ryker was a beloved companion and colleague, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her contributions to public safety and the Department’s mission will not be forgotten.

The NHDOC honors K-9 Ryker’s service and mourns her loss alongside Deputy Chief Ward and all those who worked with her. Ryker will be forever missed, but her legacy will live on.

Monetary donations in Ryker’s honor can be made to the NHDOC K-9 Association. The NHDOC K-9 Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to retired NHDOC canine teams.
