NHDOC Hosts First Prison Fellowship Academy Graduation in the State

CONCORD, NH – The New Hampshire Department of Corrections State Prison for Men celebrates a significant milestone with the department’s first graduating class from the Prison Fellowship Academy. Seventeen residents voluntarily took part in the inaugural 52-week intensive program, founded on Christian principles of character and relational development.

The Prison Fellowship Academy (the “Academy”) is facilitated by trained volunteers and coaches to utilize a specific curriculum to help each resident establish renewed purpose and life principles. By embracing the Academy’s six core values of good citizenship; productivity, responsibility, integrity, community, affirmation, and restoration, participants are equipped to make meaningful contributions both inside and outside of prison which ultimately benefits all those around them. The program teaches residents important life skills such as resolving conflict, responsible thinking, managing personal finances, and much more.

Prison Fellowship Academy is run in over 40 states. This voluntary program introduces residents to chapel programming, the Prison Fellowship Hope Event, or the Prison Fellowship Angel Tree event at our facilities. The program is also advertised on the tablets, allowing more residents to become aware of the opportunity.

Commissioner Hanks expressed her enthusiasm about the program, stating, “We are incredibly proud of the residents who have completed the Prison Fellowship Academy. This program is an excellent addition to the range of programming the Department offers to residents. The dedication and hard work demonstrated by these graduates is commendable, and we look forward to seeing their positive impact moving forward.”
