Capital Project: Replacement Facility for NH State Prison for Men
Originally built in 1878, with extensive renovations in the 1980s, the existing NH State Prison for Men is aged and deteriorating. This page provides information and updates as it relates to the capital project of replacing the NH State Prison for Men.
Timeline:
August 2024-Present:
- NHDOC and DAS host meetings with DLR Group to begin project.
- DLR Group organizes core drill and test pit site evaluations, wetlands survey crew assessments, and boundary survey teams verifying acreage. Estimated completion of 1/30/2025.
December 18, 2024: ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) Phase 1 - Environmental Site Assessment Process started on December 18th. This includes both field work and records research, focusing on aspects like environmental compliance, site conditions, and materials quality, etc. As of December 31, 2024, the team has drilled 14.5 days and completed 15 Boring Sites.
August 9, 2024: Governor Sununu signs HB 2024 into law, which includes $40 million to prepare final designs to build a new replacement prison. Note: A separate RFP will be issued for work under the $40 million allocated in HB 2024.
July 31, 2024: State of New Hampshire Department of Administrative Services (DAS), Division of Public Works Design & Construction issue "Notice to Proceed" letter to DLR Group, following G&C Approval at the July 10, 2024 meeting.
July 10, 2024: Governor & Executive Council approves close to $10,000,000 for design and engineering services for a replacement facility.
